Changing the Face of Public Safety

Public safety and public safety reform have been hallmarks of Mayor Elsie's incumbency. However, Elsie's work on public safety has been equally about reforming law enforcement, as well as highlighting and eradicating bias throughout HP. 

 

Recently, Elsie led the effort to implement the ARRIVE Together program, where a mental health professional and plainclothes officer will respond to a mental health crisis or a mental health disturbance, which account for the lion's share of calls coming into PD dispatch.

 

As councilwoman and Chair of public safety, Elsie oversaw greatly increased transparency and accountability with the introduction of quarterly use of force reporting from the Highland Park Police Department. 

 

Mayor Elsie is a police reformer and continues to work with our excellent police department in order to be more responsive to community needs.
